Dear Mr. Funeral Director:
My name is Dennis Deyo.
I am writing to let you know that I am available to play the piano or organ whenever there is a funeral and there is no musician. This could be at your funeral home or at a church when the seated musician is unavailable.
My experience is broad. I have been a church musician for 40 years, playing the organ and piano for churches in Worcester County since 1967. Now that I am drawing closer to retirement, I am working to increase the awareness of my ability with funerals so that I may continue playing well into my retirement.
I know all of the favorite hymns. My sight-reading ability is excellent, so an unfamiliar hymn would always sound the way it should. I can play all types of organs and pianos, and if a song needs to be sung in a different key, I can usually transpose the music on the spot.
Naturally, the church usually provides their own musician for a funeral.
In the off chance that the musician would not available for a funeral during the week, or was away, or ill—I am always able to fill in, when needed. My teaching schedule leaves the daytime usually free.
Although I have usually played for Protestant services, I have been playing the organ for the Saturday afternoon Mass at St. Mary of the Hills Roman Catholic Church in Boylston. I am familiar with the parts of the Mass as well as the various settings that Priests and Cantors like to use. They hired me about 2 years ago.
If you have a need for a capable musician, and I can help with that need, I would very much like to satisfy your need.
Blessings!
Dennis E. Deyo
