Sorensens’s Affordable Mortuary lied to me during pretty much every conversation we had. From claiming that they would give me the autopsy results in 3 days (results take 8 weeks and are only available from the Coroner’s office) to lying about how many official Death Certificates the widower had ordered (saying he’d gotten one and encouraging me to get more, when the truth was he’d ordered a dozen… none of which have the cause of death, so are useless for insurance), to claiming the day before the service that they’d called to have me pick up the ashes three days before. (In the age of cell phones, lying about calling someone is just plain stupid.)
The day before the funeral, they still would not return my call about getting the ashes… until my agent called them and became threatening. Then, suddenly, my phone rang (with the claim that Dawn had tried to call on Tuesday).
The coroner warned me that they would try to sell me bogus death certificates… boy, were they right! As I said, they talked the widower into buying a dozen, and then — once I’d warned him — managed to talk him into accepting them, even though they were worthless.
I was told bald-face lies in every single conversation I had. Phone calls were not returned, or were not returned until several days later. At no point was any effort made to actually be helpful.
